A young military officer is about to watch a film that was shot a few hours earlier. The film shows an unknown disk-shaped craft landing on the ground. Six years later,this young officer, Leroy Gordon Cooper, became a national hero when he became the last American astronaut to fly “solo” in a Mercury capsule.
